  • Local restrictions including any requirements to present a test simply in order to transit through the country.

The local authorities in each country set the rules and determine whether or not you are in compliance with them.

If you are notified by the local authorities that you must go into quarantine, then you must follow the instructions of the local authorities. Contact your travel and insurance company.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Danish embassies have very limited scope to provide assistance should you be instructed not to leave your hotel or to quarantine at a private residence.

The Danish authorities cannot influence the measures or restrictions that other countries choose to introduce and which they consider necessary to prevent the further spread of infection.

If you suspect or know you are infected, you must follow the local authorities’ instructions. Contact your travel and insurance company as soon as possible.

You can contact the embassy or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Global Monitoring Centre ((+45) 33 92 11 12) if you are in need of urgent assistance.

In general, very few countries have a healthcare system with the same access to assistance and the same quality of treatment as the Danish healthcare system. In many countries, the best healthcare services are concentrated in the capital and larger cities.

If you are admitted to hospital abroad with a confirmed covid-19 infection or covid-19 symptoms, you should always follow the instructions of the local authorities.

You should also contact your insurance company if you require urgent medical assistance and be sure to also inform your travel company/tour operator.

If you need further advice, you can contact the local embassy or consulate or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Global Monitoring Centre 24/7 at [email protected] or (+45) 33 92 11 12. You can find an overview of Danish embassies here.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the embassies have no influence over the measures and restrictions that other countries choose to introduce in order to prevent the local spread of infection.

The embassies and the Ministry can provide advice on the local healthcare system, but they cannot make decisions regarding treatment or your transfer to another facility. Transfers to better hospital facilities will only be possible with the approval of the local authorities and provided the costs are covered by your insurance company or self-funded. The embassy cannot offer hospital visits.

Whether or not your insurance covers a certain scenario is a matter between you and your insurance company. If you are unsure about your coverage, speak with your insurance company. It is up to your travel and insurance companies to decide how they apply the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ travel advice.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs' travel advice

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs' travel advice is no longer coloured according to the covid-19 situation in a country. As before, the colours once more indicate what the security risk to ordinary Danish tourists is assessed as being as a result of issues such as terrorism, crime and unrest, etc.

However, you should remain aware that there is a risk of contracting covid-19 wherever in the world you travel.

You can read more about the travel advice and find it here (um.dk) (only in Danish).
