Vaccination helps prevent serious illness, hospitalisation and death.
During autumn and winter 2022/23, the Danish Health Authority has recommended booster vaccination for persons over 50 years of age and selected target groups. The offer of booster vaccinations for covid-19 ended on 1 March.
There will still be some people who will need to be booster-vaccinated before a vaccination programme is expected to begin in the autumn. There may be patients who receive an organ transplant, for example. They will still have the opportunity to get a booster vaccination if the doctor considers it necessary.
People at increased risk who are vaccinated are generally well protected against severe covid-19 disease.
Some people with a severely impaired immune system and generally increased risk of serious illness may find their previous covid-19 vaccinations insufficiently effective, and are therefore offered a booster vaccination.
The effect of the vaccination decreases over time, and therefore the Danish Health Authority continuously assesses whether some special groups, e.g. the elderly or people with special diseases or conditions, should be offered a booster vaccination against covid-19.
